Will Plastic Surgery Boost Self-Esteem?

I think its pretty well understood that true self confidence, the kind of confidence that helps us all reach our goals, persevere through the difficult times, and stand the test of time, comes from within. This cannot be overstated. With that said, I also think its no secret that how we look definitely has an impact on how we feel, how we see ourselves, how others see us, and ultimately our self esteem and self image.

But don’t take my word for it, lets think about our own life and the world around us. When a woman decides she’s going out for the night with her girlfriends, does she put on a sweatshirt and sweat pants? Of course not, she goes into her closet and puts on the hottest outfit she can find. Why? She wants to feel beautiful and sexy, and of course when she feels sexy, she becomes sexy, she embodies confidence, she is confidence. Or how about this same woman on a Monday, getting ready for a meeting with a potentially huge client. Does she go to work in jeans and sneakers? No, she wears her best power suit. She wants to feel smart and powerful, and of course when she feels powerful, she becomes power, she embodies confidence, she is confidence.

So there’s an interesting relationship between the confidence that comes from within, and the confidence that comes from with out. The difference between our clothes and plastic surgery should be pretty apparent. At the end of the day, we take off our clothes and get back to our “normal” levels of confidence. Plastic Surgery however is more permanent. When we go to bed, there it is, and when we wake up, its still there. It’s the confidence booster that lasts longer than any change of clothes would do. Just imagine that; always feeling like you’re in that sexy dress, or that custom power suit! What a difference that could make. Morrison Plastic Surgery is here to be that difference.

Plastic Surgery Myths: A Game of True or False

A Game of True or False

1a. I’m afraid to get plastic surgery on my face because I’ll look like the Lion Lady (Jocelyn Wildenstein)

False: The Lion Lady is an extremely, extreme case! She is rumored to have spent over $4,000,00 in plastic surgeries which means possibly hundreds of operations. There is no way any Board Certified Plastic Surgeon worth his salt would participate in something like this. We have done thousands of surgeries over the past 20 years, and have never had any issues or results of this nature.

1b. Cosmetic surgeons and Plastic surgeons are all the same.

False: All plastic surgeons do not have the same levels of training. Doctors like Dr. Norman Morrison, who report to be Board Certified in Plastic Surgery, have undergone years of specific training related to all nuances of cosmetic and plastic surgery. They are also members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

2. The only people who undergo plastic surgery are Celebrities

False: Logically this can’t be true. Celebrities make up maybe 1% of the total population. An industry can’t survive on those kind of numbers. Although we have worked with some Celebrities, Morrison Plastic Surgery is all about you and me, the everyday person. People like you and I who want to improve our appearance, self confidence, and lives. At the end of the day, we all just want to be happy right?

3. Only women get Plastic Surgery

False: Nope! Now don’t get me wrong, women do indeed make up a larger percent of our client base. However, we do have men who come in for procedures as well. Some men even participate in less invasive procedures like Botox and Dermal features.

4. Plastic Surgery is all about Beauty and Vanity

False: No way jose! We have many women who come to us who are cancer survivors who need post-cancer breast reconstruction. Plastic surgery also helps with birth defects such as cleft palates as well as help repair work-related injuries.

5. Morrison Plastic Surgery and Dr. Norman Morrison can help me with my Plastic Surgery needs

True: Yes, we are indeed awesome, but don’t just take our word for it… Find out for yourself by booking a consultation!

Our Nose and the Perception of Beauty

Our Noses! They’re funny things aren’t they? We don’t think much about it on a day-to-day basis, but we use it all the time. It’s right smack dab in the middle of our faces, literally in our line of sight, but we seem never to notice it at all as we go about our business. In today’s standards, our noses seem to have a big impact on our perception of beauty. A quote from a fellow surgeon states: “The nose is the most prominent and protruding part of the human face, so it’s immediately noticed.”

Here are some interesting facts about our nose:

  • Women have stronger senses of smell than men
  • A man’s nose reaches its full size between the ages of 17-19, and for women it’s between 15-17
  • Rhinoplasty (or a nose job) is one of the top 5 cosmetic surgery procedures

So what is a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that aims to improve the appearance and proportion of our noses, enhancing facial harmony and/or correcting impaired breathing or structural abnormalities.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

  • We can change the size of our nose, width, position, and profile
  • We can fix and injured nose
  • We can correct breathing Difficulties
  • We can help create facial and nasal symmetry which can significantly improve self confidence

At Morrison Plastic Surgery we have been providing this service for the African American and Hispanic community for over 20 years. If you are a part of this community and are interested but don’t want to lose your natural and beautiful ethnic features, don’t worry. Dr. Norman Morrison can add symmetry without losing the features that make you, you!
